Welcome

RPS CONTEMPORARY GROUP

Is a special interest Group of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), for those seeking an individual vision to express views of contemporary life and thought through their photography. Whether you work in black and white or colour, digital or mixed media, conventional or constructed presentations, it is how you put bodies of work together that counts. Organising pictures so that they interact with each other reveals much more than a set of unconnected single images.

If you think that photography:

  • is a medium for communication and self-expression

  • is more expressive when images are grouped so that they interact with one another

  • should be free from constraints or rules you will find the Contemporary Group stimulating and exciting

WHAT WE DO

The Contemporary Group organise stimulating talks, seminars and workshops, many in conjunction with groups of 'independent' photographers, opportunities for critiques of your work by leading photographers, artists and teachers, guidance on gaining RPS Associateship and Fellowship distinctions in your style of photography. We have a regular thought-provoking Group Journal, a circulating Postal Portfolio of boxes of prints among members and the possibility of exhibitions of members work at galleries around the UK.
